A 59-year-old inmate that spent 22 months in solitary
confinement has been described as traumatized and physically weak.
Steven Slevin is that inmate, and went to jail in August of
2005 on charges of driving while intoxicated and receiving a stolen vehicle.
Those charges were never prosecuted.
Slevin was neglected by the staff of the Doña Ana County,
New Mexico jail, and is now being awarded $15.5 million.
The now millionaire also has lung cancer and has lived
longer than doctor’s believed he would.
In addition to the cancer, Slevin also suffers from
post-traumatic stress that he says is physical and mental mistreatment by the
Doña Ana County.
