Authorities said Monday that a former student at the University of Central Florida took his own life after his plan to attack the campus failed.

James Oliver Seevakumaran’s body was found with a gun wound in his dorm room along with homemade explosives and other weapons.

NBC reports that the 30-year-old student pulled a gun on his roommate, who in turn locked himself in the bathroom and called the police.

Florida Police Chief Richard Beary believes that Seevakumaran pulled a fire alarm in order to get students outside and exposed for an attack.

Beary also says that he is confident that the police’s fast response to the situation made Seevakumaran change his decision about carrying out the attack.
