Texas Shootout Potentially Connected to Colorado Prison Chief Murder

A man who could be linked to the slaying of Colorado's state prison chief is likely to die after being shot by Wise County deputies after a chase and shootout Thursday.

An investigation is underway by Colorado authorities to determine if a connection exists between a Texas shooting and the murder of a Colorado prison chief earlier this week.

The Thursday shootout began with a high-speed chase triggered by a man who shot at police in Texas during a traffic stop and then fled in a car.

The Montague Country deputy was shot at twice while wearing a bullet proof vest and was grazed on the head by another bullet, sending him to the hospital in serious condition.

The chase ended in a crash that left the shooter brain dead and declared as legally dead.
