Friday marked the day that South Dakota became the first
state in the U.S. to pass a law allowing school employees to carry guns.
South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard signed a bill that
allows state school boards to oversee and authorize school employees to carry guns.
Conditions of this law make it so that school boards need
the approval of local law enforcement before beginning their gun program.
A training program would need to be passed in order for
employees to carry weapons in schools.
NBC reports that residents in school districts are able to
put the issue to a voter referendum.
