Nearly 12,000 barrels of oil and water were recovered Saturday at the site of a crude oil spill in Arkansas.

Exxon Mobil has since shut the pipeline due to the Friday spill and has said the Environment Protection Agency classifies the spill as “major”.

As of now, 22 homes have been evacuated as the situation is being handled.

A spokesman for Exxon made a statement Sunday saying the area around the pipeline had not been excavated.

This excavation would need to take place in order for the company to estimate the time needed for repairs.
