A Mayan pyramid in Belize dating back roughly 2,300 years was
destroyed by a construction company in order to have gravel for road filling.
Jaime Awe is the head of the Belize Institute of Archaeology.
He says that the pyramid’s destruction was detected a week ago.

It's a feeling of incredible disbelief because of the ignorance and the insensitivity ... they were using this for road fill. It's like being punched in the stomach, it's just so horrendous.
Associated Press reports that archaeologist say Maya mound
bulldozing for road fill has become a problem.
The 100-foot tall mound sat in the center of a privately
owned sugarcane field.
Awe says the pyramid
couldn’t have possibly been mistaken as a natural hill.
