Temperatures exceeding 110 degrees scorched the Southwest on Saturday in parts
of Arizona, Nevada, and California.
Phoenix’s temperature hit 119 degrees by the afternoon, and California had
issued extreme heat warnings that are said to last until Tuesday night.
Death Valley experienced around 125 degrees heat, about 9 degrees short of the
record 134 degrees recorded a century ago.
A concert in Las Vegas sent 30 people to the hospital Friday where they were
treated for heat ailments.
