Paralyzed Woman Controls Robotic Arm with Mind

A woman paralyzed from the neck down has been able to move a robotic arm using nothing but her mind.

Jan Scheuermann has been attending sessions at the University of Pittsburgh in order to hone her skills with the arm.

It was 10 years ago that Jan lost the ability to use her limbs due to a degenerative disease that damaged her spinal cord.

Doctors have reported findings of her usage of the arm to be fluid in that she can move the arm in a number of directions.

The procedure to allow her to control the arm involved her brain being implanted with sensors.

When signals pass through her brain, the electricity from the signals is translated into commands that allow her to control the arm.
