Kiefer School District 18 in Oklahoma has canceled classes
due to more than 140 students being stricken with the flu.
The district said they canceled Friday’s classes because
they want to give students the weekend to rest.
ABC reports that since the recent flu outbreak eight people
have died in Oklahoma alone.
More than 40 states have confirmed that flu has spread to
their states, and 20 deaths under the age of 18 have been reported since the
outbreak.
Statistics released on Friday by the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention states that roughly 13.3 per 100,000 people were
hospitalized from the flu since October 1, 2012.
