A federal judge ruled Friday that the U.S Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) must make the Plan B emergency contraceptive available for over-the-counter purchase.
Judge Edward Korman described the restriction on purchasing Plan B as “a strong showing of bad faith and improper
political influence”.
The FDA must remove the current restrictions on Plan B purchasing
within 30 days, but the agency has the option to file an appeal.
The judge’s ruling orders the emergency contraceptive to be
made available on shelves for purchase by girls and women of all ages.
