A California court has ruled that handling a GPS feature on your
phone while driving is illegal.
Steven Spriggs was the defendant in the court case and was
pulled over for operating his vehicle while using his cellphone’s GPS feature.
The ruling said that without a handsfree method of using the
GPS, the action would be seen as illegal as texting while driving.
The following is an excerpt from the California v. Spriggs
ruling:
This case requires us to determine weather using a wireless phone solely for its map application function while driving violates Vehicle Code section 23123. We hold that it does.
